Speculating on SpecFic

Fantastic Literature: From epic fantasy to fairytales to myth-making

Matched - Ally Condie Read the full review here.I can't help but be a little disappointed in this book after such a promising premise. I think the concept of a higher order dictating everything, from what one eats, how they exercise, what they dream, could have been used as something better - instead of being a backdrop to what is shaping up to be an unoriginal, love triangle oriented story. I thought that the characters also lacked originality - the excited, naive girl, the best friend, the mysterious new guy, the innocent younger brother, parents with a secret - all overdone in YA fiction. I don't feel that Ally Condie brought anything new to the genre in this book - it seems she borrowed elements from many other dystopian YA books.
